About us

Les Chevêches is a fermette in the Mayenne region of France. We share the house with our three children, nine bicycles and an astonishing array of creepy-crawlies.

The house gets its name from the chouette chevêche or Little Owl, Athenae noctua. We hear them most mornings and evenings, and often see one silhouetted against the sky on the chimney of our bread oven. We also have barn owls and tawny owls, which are far noisier but harder to spot.
